Abstract

The experiment tested the efficacy of four selenium (Se) fertilization treatments and a control in the Se content of Star grass. Significant differences were observed among treatments and dates of evaluation but no interactions were observed. The highest soil Se application of 5.16 kg/ha of Selcote Ultra was significantly (P<0.01) superior in concentration to that of control and of the application of 0.861 and 1.72 kg/ha of the same product. Dates of harvest after Se application were significantly (P<0.05) higher from 2 to 6 weeks in relation to all tested dates after week 10. Although all treatments presented forage Se concentrations that meet the minimum requirements for grazing ruminants, it seems that forage Se content was elevated up to week 18.
