Can Community Development and Community Education be Collaborative?

Abstract

The theme of this article. is that problem-solving city-wide and at the local level of urban neighborhoods is dependent upon organizational structure which extends from institutions of government and schools into the neighborhoods themselves. This is .necessary for .the collectivizing of inqividual resident-consumer needs and interests, and for communicating them to citywide resource institutions. Community Education is identified in this article as a city-wide structure for' communications within neighborhoods, and between neighborhoods and government. Community Development is a relationship building process which assists residents together, planners and program developers, antl decision makers-all collectively, in identifying needs local and city-wide and in developing resource responses. which will resolve or reduce these needs. Resolving problems and communicating information about them, people to people, is identified with creating new feelings of community within neighborhoods and within the city.
