Getting Teacher Evaluation Right: What Principals Need to Know

 

Abstract

This article critiques traditional teacher-evaluation systems as a method of -improving teacher quality and student achievement, and then provides guidance on how school leaders can use teacher evaluation in conjunction with other school improvement initiatives. Five effective principals in urban schools that made -significant growth on state-mandated assessments were interviewed to add voice and nuance to existing research associated with instructional leadership and school improvement.
