On the Shoulders of Giants

Abstract

*Note: In his correspondence of July 24, 1986, Professor Wheeler suggested the heading “Among the Seekers” as title for his contribution, in lieu of “On the Shoulders of Giants.” In making this suggestion, Dr. Wheeler was indicating a preference, worthy of contemplation, that we “put the emphasis on all of us being searchers, not some chosen few 'giants'.” Indeed, it is the spirit of seeking that Dr. Wheeler salutes in the following tributes to Copernicus, Joseph Henry, and Albert Einstein.
