Off‐site centres for disruptive secondary school pupils in New Zealand

Summary

This paper describes the origin and development of off‐site units for disruptive secondary school pupils in New Zealand. It provides details about pupils admitted to units, and about their destination on leaving. Issues are identified concerning the curriculum and administration of off‐site units. Finally, the paper discusses implications for schools and for administrators of a decision to establish off‐site units.
