Summary
The extent of standardized testing in schools is considerable, and the most popular reading test in use by teachers is still the Schonell Graded Word Reading Test. In this paper the attractions of testing, and of ‘old and tried’ tests, are discussed, as are the limitations and dangers in the use of tests.
