TREATMENT PRACTICES IN BRITISH CHILD GUIDANCE CLINICS: AN HISTORICAL OVERVIEW

Abstract

The child guidance clinic's contribution to the treatment of children with emotional and learning difficulties is described, and the changing pattern of treatment provision is indicated. Individual remedial teaching and residential and day placement of maladjusted children is considered, and the recent trends in child guidance treatment, such as family therapy, are briefly mentioned. There is a reference to the scanty evaluations studies of child guidance work and some of the more valuable are quoted.
