Level of Maximum Isometric Strength and Relative Load Isometric Endurance

Pages 429-435 | Published online: 27 Apr 2007

Abstract

Forty-seven male college students were tested for maximum isometric strength and relative load isometric endurance of the right elbow flexor muscles at 50, 60, 70 and 80 per cent of their maximum strength level. Three groups were formed based on the maximum isometric strength of the subjects.

The data were analysed by an analysis of variance treatment by subjects design and by an analysis of variance of trends. The low strength group was able to maintain the specified tension levels of 50, 60 and 70 per cent of maximum strength significantly longer than the high strength group. Only on the 80 per cent measure were the holding times of the three groups identical
