Dark Adaptation Recovery After Pulsed Light

&
Pages 759-764 | Published online: 24 Oct 2007

Abstract

Recovery of complete dark adaptation was observed after exposure to single pulses of light. Illuminances were measured at the subject's face and durations ranged from 0·01 to 1·0 second. Subjects recorded their own recovery by adjusting an adaptometer to the lowest luminance detectable. Recovery times were sensitive to both duration and illuminance but varied most predictably with total light flux as measured in lumen-seconds.
