The Combination of Smoking with Psychological and Physiological Stress

Pages 665-670 | Published online: 25 Apr 2007

Abstract

The combination of smoking cigarettes and the anticipation of a written examination was investigated on 10 teenage girls. Both stresses alone increased pulse rate. The effect of the combined stresses was found to be additive.

In a second experiment a step test was performed by teenage girls with and without previous smoking. The increase in the respiration rate was found to be greater after previous smoking than without.
