Force-sensitive platform for measuring keypresses

Pages 243-249 | Received 18 Mar 1982, Published online: 31 May 2007

Abstract

A force-sensitive platform can be used in conjunction with a minicomputer to measure and record the behaviour of people pressing keys on devices such as pocket calculators or viewdata keypads, without requiring any modification to the device itself. The apparatus described compensates automatically for the apparent displacement caused by oblique forces, and has a resolution and accuracy which effectively allow it to locate an applied force to within one cell in a 30 × 30 array
