Costs and benefits in occupational ergonomics

Pages 261-268 | Published online: 27 Mar 2007

Abstract

Forty years after the start of the first industrial ergonomics department, there are still relatively few ergonomists working full time in industry. I argue that this arises primarily from ergonomists' reluctance to consider the economic aspects of their work and show, with examples from a variety of industries, how economic benefit could become a powerful marketing tool for ergonomics.
