Abstract
The Central Advice Group for Ergonomics (CAE) is the specialist consultancy group in the field of ergonomics within Netherlands Railways (NS). From a multi-disciplinary structure, an ergonomic contribution is made to projects which differ greatly in nature, size and complexity. In future, developments within the NS organization will lead to the CAE having to be substantially self-supporting as far as finances are concerned. Partly as a result of this, a methodical CAE project policy has been developed, as well as a market-orientated approach. This will be further illustrated in three examples. The first describes the contribution of ergonomics to a modernization project in the goods wagon workshop. The second examines the collaboration between the CAE and the marketing department on passenger-orientated projects. The third discusses the ergonomic contributions to the design and development process for new train rolling stock.
