Vision and visual environment for VDT work

Pages 775-785 | Published online: 27 Mar 2007

Abstract

As office work is being automated at an extremely fast pace, working conditions in offices are being changed dramatically by the introduction of visual display terminals (VDTs). Because of this trend, therefore, attention has to be paid to the health and safety problems of office workers who engage in the operation of VDT. This paper describes the characteristics of VDT work, and reports on the vision-related characteristics of the CRT, which is the most popular information display device. It further reports on the visual environment suitable for VDT work.
