Commentary Advancing human factors involvement in engineering design: a bridge not far enough?

Pages 147-149 | Published online: 10 Nov 2010

Abstract

While welcoming Dowell and Long's contribution we express some doubts about the value of this approach, both on its own terms, and as an advance on current human factors methods. In particular we question the adequacy of its treatment of measurement problems, and of the relationship between design and other aspects of engineering. We also emphasize the need to develop more effective communication between the two communities if such an initiative is to be fruitful.
