The relationship between ethnology and social anthropology¹

In May 1961 kind invitations from Oxford University, Cambridge University and the University of Edinburgh gave me the fortunate opportunity to deliver some lectures in the United Kingdoms. The present paper gives the content of one of these lectures given in Oxford and Cambridge. I am greatly indebted to Professors E. E. Evans‐Pritchard and Meyer Fortes, and Dr. Kenneth L.
