Abstract
We have investigated the segmental motion of an antiferroelectric liquid crystal using time-resolved polarized infrared absorption. It was found that segmental motions of chiral and achiral chain exhibited the same behavior as that of the core part in 4(l-methylheptyloxy-carbonyl)phenyl 4′-octyloxybiphenyl-4-carboxylate (MHPOBC), in spite of the largely bent chiral chain with respect to the molecular core axis.
