Abstract
By analyzing the x-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) data, the difference of reacting mechanism of molten salt synthesis (MSS) and conventional mixed oxide (CMO) method were studied. The results indicated that as for MSS, unstable and B-site vacant pyrochlore phase of Pb3Nb2O8 was produced and Nb5+ vacancies of Pb3Nb2O8 could be occupied by Mg2+, forming an intermediate Pb2Nb4/3Mg2/3O6 which had low apparent activation energy and was very easy to transform into perovskite phase structure. The reaction mechanism of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) prepared by MSS was proposed
