Crystallization of sol-gel derived Pb 1−x Ca x TiO 3 powders have been investigated using TG-DTA technique, X-ray diffraction and FT-IR spectroscopy. The thermograms obtained on as fired PbTiO 3 powder showed a dominant exotherm at ∼450°C, and is well supported by X-ray diffraction indicating single-phase formation. With calcium doping the crystallization temperature is found to reduce. Although TG-DTA and XRD analysis indicated crystallization at low temperatures, but the FT-IR analysis revealed significant presence of organic phase, and suggests firing at a much higher temperature (> 550°C) to obtain a pure inorganic phase.
