A 2 mm-diameter glass sphere of ferroelectric BaTi2O5 was produced from melt using containerless processing. Three successive phase transitions above the glass transition temperature, T gend = 972 K, of BaTi2O5 were observed. At crystallization temperature, T α−onset = 994 K, the permittivity at 100 Hz jumped instantaneously by more than one order of magnitude, peaking at over 107. The interesting behavior at crystallization temperature has important technical implications for obtaining an excellent dielectric ceramics-glass through controlled crystallization of BaTi2O5 glass.
