Fine BaTiO 3 powders have been prepared by using barium hydroxide (Ba(OH) 2 ) and titanium peroxo-hydroxide (TiO 2 (OH) 2 ) as precursors through hydrothermal synthesis. Ba(OH)2 was used as a barium precursor as well as a pH adjustment agent instead of strong alkaline mineralizers, KOH or NaOH. The present study shows that the hydrothermal reaction by the reactive titanium peroxo-precursor and Ba(OH) 2 provides a simple low temperature route for producing fine BaTiO 3 powders. The phase-pure BaTiO 3 powders with a cubic perovskite structure were almost instantaneously synthesized at a temperature as low as 80°C. The synthesized powders consist of fine and spherical particulates and offer low ceramic processing temperatures and high-density ceramic products.
