Abstract

Piezoelectric transducers are key elements in ultrasound systems used in applications such imaging and flaw detection in non-destructive testing (NDT). NDT intend the analysis of materials and components without affecting their properties, leaving them suitable for their later use, which constitutes actually a valuable tool of engineering.

In the present work it was successfully manufactured and characterized a piezoelectric transducer for NDT. The active element of the transducer was a PZT ceramic prepared by the conventional method of solid state reaction. Dielectric, piezoelectric, mechanical and acoustic properties were determined.

The transducer was characterized by both electroacoustic and optoacoustic methods.
