(Chairman of IWMN-2016)

These Proceedings contain a collection of invited papers, oral and poster articles based on the respective presentations at the Second International Workshop Modern Nanotechnology (IWMN-2016), which was held in Ekaterinburg, Russia, August 27–29, 2016.

Second International Workshop IWMN-2016 covered a wide range of scientific topics:

domain engineered ferroelectric crystals;

ferroelectric ceramics and thin films;

relaxor and multiferroic materials;

biocompatible materials and life science.

The Workshop was organized by the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and by Ural Center for Shared Use “Modern Nanotechnology” of the Ural Federal University (UCSU MN UrFU).

The objective of IWMN-2016 was to provide an international and interdisciplinary exchange of information on various topics related to imaging, processing, characterization, and applications of ferroelectrics, multiferroics, piezoelectrics, ionic conductors, polar biomaterials and organic crystals, and other functional materials in order to ensure effective cooperation among scientists and specialists from universities, research institutions and industry.

The Workshop gathered the current and future users of the Ural Center for Shared Use “Modern Nanotechnology” UrFU for discussing the achieved and expected further results of joint research and international collaboration. During the Workshop the possibility to carry out the measurements by means of the modern experimental and technological equipment of UCSU MN has been provided for all participants (http://nanocenter.urfu.ru/en/equipment).

More than 100 participants from 11 countries: Brazil, China, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Japan, Israel, and Russia presented their results. The Workshop comprised 114 presentations, including 17 invited, 18 oral, and 74 poster ones.

The organizers are very grateful for the financial support from Taylor & Francis Group, Russian Foundation for Basic Research, INTERTECH Corporation, NT-MDT Company, OPTEC, SPECS GmBH, Synercon, and KDSI.
