Abstract

Well dispersed K2Nb8O21 microcrystalline were fabricated by molten salt synthesis with the addition of KSr2Nb5O15 (KSN) seed. The crystal structure and morphologies of the product particles were investigated. The results suggested that existing KSN seed played the role of nucleus in the K2Nb8O21 particle growth process due to the similar crystal structure. Uniform micron-sized K2Nb8O21 particles with large aspect ratio could be obtained by adding a small of SrCO3 in the KCl + Nb2O5+KSN seed system. The particle is single crystal and the growth direction is determined to be the <001> crystallography direction.
