Abstract

Ti-5553 is one of the difficult-to-cut materials, which is prone to surface defects and plastic deformation during machining, resulting in its surface quality deterioration. In this paper, the experimental of machining Ti-5553 under LN2 cryogenic was carried to comparison with dry and high-pressure. The result indicated that Sq is the smallest under LN2 cryogenic. The depth of plastic deformation is the smallest during dry machining. The most influential factor for the surface hardening rate of the workpiece is cutting speed. The surface residual tensile stress gradually increases with the cutting speed and feed rate increase.
