Abstract
A new and simple method is introduced to make experimental observations of the coercive field of a ferroelectric which avoids the ambiguities associated with the amplitude dependence of this quantity. The temperature dependence of the coercive field of TGS in the vecinity of Tc has been measured and found to obey a law Ec=A(Tc-T)s, with s=1.45°0.10, in good agreement with the theoretical prediction s=3/2
