Abstract
Ferroelastic phase transitions in RNbO4 compounds (R = La-Lu) with fergusonite-type structure have been studied. Spontaneous shear strain, thermal expansion and dielectric properties were examined. The phenomenological analysis of the ferroelastic phase transitions in RNbO4 has been carried out. The data obtained indicate that all RNbO4 compounds are pure proper ferroelastics.
