Abstract
Results on Ising models are reviewed in connection with experimental findings on ferroelectric and ferromagnetic materials. In particular, models with competing interactions, like the ANNNI model and an Ising system with dipolar interactions, are discussed, and applications of Monte Carlo coarse graining are presented.
