Study of positronium formation in ferroelectric crystals

Pages 199-210 | Published online: 15 Mar 2011

Positron annihilation in ferroelectric crystals is considered, a common acceptance is based on ionic models. By application of the perturbation theory method and exciton model the possibility for positronium formation, its stability and dependence on the direction and value of the spontaneous polarization vector in ferroelectric crystals is studied. The results show that positronium can be formed and is dynamically stable in the ferroelectric types Rochelle salt, Potassium dihydrogen phosphate, Tri-glycine sulphate, but not in BaTiO3, PbTiO3 and KNbO3. The positron lifetime depends on the value of the spontaneous polarization but not on its direction.
