Abstract
Recently synthesized compounds present physical characteristics which are rather different from usual ones. The polarization in Smectic C* phase is high (about 200 nC/cm2), the response time is in the 10 μs range and, when present, the Sm A - Sm C* phase transition is markedly first order. One of these compounds has been studied in the Sm A - Sm C* range with different techniques.
