Abstract
Brillouin spectroscopy was used to determine the room temperature point group of tetragonal LiRb5(SO4)3·1.5 H2SO4 (LRSHS) and to classify this material in terms of ferroeleastic species. From the temperature dependence of the Brillouin line shifts of phonons [101] and [10] below Tc
(132 K), it was determined that the crystal studied undergoes a ferroelastic phase transition from the tetragonal point group 4mm to orthorhombic mm2.
