The phase boundary as a kink

Pages 193-200 | Received 18 Jul 1988, Published online: 08 Feb 2011

Abstract

An experimental verification was made of the theoretical results obtained by Gordon for the motion of phase boundaries in PbTiO3 single crystals. Making use of the jerky motion of the phase boundary the supercooling was determined together with the corresponding value of phase boundary velocity. On this basis the value of the kinetic Landau-Khalatnikov coefficient Γ was calculated and found to be 1.61 × 1010 s−1.
