Abstract

Brillouin scattering method was used to study the hypersound behavior in some ferroelectrics with a “diffuse phase transition.” The softening of hypersound velocities is associated with the growth of fluctuations which become extremely large as a transition into a glassy phase occurs at lower temperatures. A central peak with an extending wing was observed in the fluctuation region.
