Abstract
Ferroelectric Ni-Br boracite crystals were grown by a modified Schmid method, by using a horizontal-type vessel. Single crystals with maximum dimension of 6 × 5 × 5 mm3 were obtained. Optical second harmonic generation (SHG) of the crystal was measured as a function of temperature. It was found that Ni-Br boracite was SHG-active both below and above the ferroelectric transition temperature Tc of 120°C and that the SHG intensity decreases toward Tc in the ferroelectric phase.
