Abstract
We report detailed experimental studies of the Brillouin scattering near the ferroelectric phase transitions in two crystals: TSCC and LGO. Characteristic anomalies in the behaviour of hypersound velocity and damping allowed us to classify these two crystals as weak ferroelectrics. Comparative study of both TSCC and LGO shows an anomalous modification depending on the degree of “weakness.” LGO could display more pronounced anomalous features typical for a weak ferroelectric, but dispersion and defects hid to a considerable extent specific patterns expected for this “more weak” ferroelectric.
