Abstract

Dielectric constants have been measured for (–)-4-(2′-methylbutyl) benzoate ester of 4-n-octyloxy benzoic acid (HS927SO). ESR spectra of two doxyl spin probes (Metyl-12-doxyl-stearate and CSL) dissolved in smectic A and C* phases of HS927SO and DOBAMBC were observed, and long-range collective distortions in molecules of liquid crystal have been found both in HS927SO and DOBAMBC of smectic A phases.
