Abstract
The prediction that BaFeF5 is a displacive-type ferroelectric was made on the basis of its previously published structure. The present study reports a correlation between Tc and cation radius for members of the isomorphous AIIBIIIX5 family. Tc is found to increase with increasing VIIIA2+ ionic radius and decrease with increasing VIB3+ ionic radius. As example BaFeF5 exhibits Tc = 730 K with r(VIIIBa2+) = 1.42 A whereas Ba0.5Sr0.5FeF5 shows Tc = 620 K with r(VIIISr2+) = 1.25 A, for r(A2+) used as the variable. The studied materials are relaxor ferroelectrics.
