Abstract
A complete solid solution K(Ti1-xSbx)O(P1-xSix)O4 (0⩽x⩽1) has been prepared between the two isotypic phases KTiOPO4 (KTP) and KSbOSiO4 (KSS). The room temperature space group is the polar orthorhombic one Pna21. The composition dependence of the cell parameters has been determined. A ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition occurs at Tc for each composition. A dielectric relaxation has been observed on a KSS ceramic. The second harmonic generation efficiency at room temperature, as well as the Curie temperature Tc, decrease when x increases. These results are correlated with the position of the M cation (M=Ti, Sb) in the MO6octahedra. Ti occupies a marked off-centered position within the TiO6 octahedra in KTP, whereas the Sb-O distances are almost identical in the SbO6 octahedra of KSS.
