Abstract
We have designed new core structures, 2-phenylnaphthalene, 2-phenylquinoline and 2-naphthylpyridine, and prepared new ferroelectric liquid crystals having these core structures. One of these compounds, 2, showed a chiral smectic C phase. The SmC* mixtures containing the compound 1 or 3 did not show the zig-zag defects.
