Abstract
The paper reviews the research carried out on polar molecular solids: low-molecular weight molecular crystals and polymers, the attention being focused on details of their molecular architecture leading to a possible appearance of ferroelectricity.
Possible directions of search for molecular ferooelectrics are discussed in the paper: it is believed that novel ferroelectric materials may be sought among crystals built of molecules undergoing subtle conformational changes, and in weak CT complexes undergoing specific phase transitions.
