Abstract
About the time that World War II was drawing to a close, BaTiO3 was found to be ferroelectric in the USA, USSR and Japan, independently. How the studies developed was much the same in each country. First, anomalous dielectric properties were found by chance. Then, in each country, immediately or in a short time, a common understanding, “this must be a ferroelectric” was reached; thus studies along this line started.
