Abstract
A new method is discussed for synthesis of Pb(Zr, Ti)03 ceramics using C02 laser irradiation. There are two kinds of the system. One is a compact of mixed powder of PbTiO3 and Bi2(ZrO3)3 and the other is a compact of Pb304, Zr02 and Ti02 powders as the starting materials. The green pellets of oxides are irradiated by CO2 laser at the power of 143, 286 and 143, 286 and 1430 W/cm2 in a flow rate of 350 cc/min. of 20% O2/Ar (105 Pa). The latter system is better for synthesis of Pb(Zr, Ti)O3 than the former one with the lower power. The former system, however, can work to take Zr into PbTiO3 matrix as well. The CO2 laser treatment will be efficient for the sintering and introducing certain elements into a matrix.
