Twin boundary structure of Au-Doped YBa2Cu3O7-xsingle crystals

YBa2(Cuo.97Auo.03)3O7 single crystals have been studied by electron microscopy. The average width of the individual twin interfaces is 1.3 nm, as determinated from high resolution images along the c- direction. This value is compared to the values obtained for similar substitutions by Cu, Al, Ni, Fe or Zn. It is concluded that the twin interface broadening is essentially related to the presence of extra oxygen. Since Au has the same oxygen coordination number as Cu no extra broadening is to be expected.
