Optical activity of (NH4)SO4

Abstract

Optical activity and birefringence of (NH4)SO4 were measured by using HAUP method, in the temperature range between 50 °C and -200 °C. Gyration tensor component g12 appeared suddenly at Tc, and increased gradually with decrease of temperature. No other phase transition was found in this temperature range.
