Magnetoelectric symmetry and electromagnetic radiation

Abstract

A U-shaped thin wire current source whose far-field radiation intensity is isotropic is described. The high symmetry of the radiation, notwithstanding the low one of the source, is traced to a hidden magnetoelectric symmetry of the emitted radiation. The polarization pattern of the radiator is also presented and its symmetry is shown to be that of a double two color tetragonal group.
