Abstract
The equilibrium domain configuration of single-axis ferroelectrics is discussed. The expression for the electrostatic energy of a plate-like crystal with polarization axis along the small dimension is generalized to apply to an arbitrary pattern of domains in the transverse direction. The gross features of the structure of crystals such as KDP which have two types of domain wall are considered. The effect of the electrostatic interaction on the thickness of domain walls is discussed for a common form of the elastic energy.
