Reflection of light from a current-carrying superconductor

Pages 231-236 | Received 13 Sep 1993, Accepted 18 Oct 1993, Published online: 25 Feb 2011

Abstract

The phenomenological study of the nonreciprocal reflection of light from a current-carrying superconductor based on symmetry properties of the reflection polarization matrix is carried out. The general form of these matrices for various current directions is obtained. A method for obtaining linear in the current approximation is proposed. Numerical estimates for the nonreciprocal rotation of the polarization plane of light were carried out. Some symmetry allowed superconducting structure which may have similar properties without a supercurrent is discussed.
