Abstract

The effects of photo-voltaic (LiNbO3:Fe) and drift (PLZT 9/65/35) nonlinearities on the recording reflection gratings are considered. The discontinuities of transmitted and backscattered laser beam incident along the optical axis are observed in LiNbO3:Fe and described by the quasi-breakdown at the surface due to a strong photovoltaic field. The origin of large coupling gain (26 cm−1) for reflection grating in LiNbO3:Fe and zero gain in PLZT 9/65/35 in applied field have been discussed.
