New structural models for different types of sillenites Bi12MO20 (M = Si, Ge, Ti, Ga, Fe, Zn, P, V, [Fe, P]) are discussed. The photoconductive behavior and energy levels of the shallow and deep traps in the BSO, BGO, BTO single crystals undoped and doped with Zn, Cd, Al, Ga, Fe, P, V, Mn have been studied. It is suggested that the variations in the excitation energy of the shallow and deep traps may be associated with the modification of local symmetry in the Bi─O sublattice.
