Abstract
Plane Wave Modelling is used to model the response of a longitudinal mode Terfenol-D composite resonator as a function of frequency. The fundamentals of device modelling using this technique are established and the method implemented for two examples. The two cases were then examined practically and good agreement was found between the modelled and experimental data. The effect of different types of adhesive bond between elements is examined to monitor their effect on the quality of the mechanical resonance.
